Lazy Days

This break was even more wonderful than I imagined it would be. Normally I'm the kind of person that makes a lengthy to do list for my days off, but this time I decided to spend time doing the things I love that I normally don't have time to do. So, obviously, I read - A LOT! I read Pat Conroy's Beach Music, and Betty Smith's A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and Joy in the Morning. I cried and laughed throughout each book and would recommend all of them. After I spent several days reading on the couch, I couldn't handle being lazy any more, so I went about some of my other hobbies.

After receiving five new cookbooks for Christmas, I decided to try out some of the recipes(almond shortbread cookies, the best oatmeal cookies, individual cappuccino cheesecakes, double chocolate caramel brownies, and orange cranberry muffins). Consequently, I started training for the Knoxville half marathon. Those treats were irresistable! My new favorite thing about running is that I now have an iPod. I've actually had it for about six months but never sat down to figure it out. It has completely changed the way I think while I am running, and I will definitely need it to make it 13.2 miles!

I spent a lot of time creating videos on iMovie with the pictures I took throughout 2007. Though I have a box of scrapbook materials in my closet and hundreds of pictures on the computer, I found that I never did anything with them. This is the perfect solution! I even figured out how to upload them to youtube. With this whole blog thing, the iPod, iMovie, and youtube, I am feeling pretty tech savvy these days! I guess I am just a little behind the trend!

So, my front door didn't get painted, the siding wasn't scrubbed, and the car was left dirty, but this was one of my favorite breaks because I just did what I wanted. To students past and present, how did you fill your two weeks off?

I love the new background! I'm glad you had a good vacation and just relaxed. So did I. We had a great Christmas and saw the new National Treasure. It was just as amazing as I thought it would be! I am embarrassed to admit that I have been so lazy over the break because I was busily working my way through the new puzzles I received for Christmas.

I did have my active moments. On the Sunday before Christmas I exchanged gifts with my brother and his family. He bought his kids a wii, so of course I jumped right in and started playing with them. We bowled, and I played a little bit of tennis. I watched both of my nephews play baseball and took one swing in golf. Sadly, after that we had to leave. I can't wait to stay over with them so I can stay up late and play some more!

Well, that's basically how I occupied myself for two weeks. Has it really it been that long? It seems so much longer.

I'm excited you are tinkering with technology. I love it so much and I couldn't live without it (okay I could, but there may come a time when I actually can't). I got an iPod for Christmas too and I have to say it is probably the best invention ever. Cheers me up when I'm sad, gets me pumped up and motivated, and it even entertains me. Who would have thought?

Sound like a very interesting and fun break you all had. I got an Ipod last Christmas which I still haven't figured out, but oh well. This Christmas was pretty good for me too I got some money and clothes. I also exchanged gifts with my family on Christmas eve at my Grandmaws.Beth I went to see National Treasure, but it was sold out so instead I saw I am Legend. Well thats what I did for my break.

My Christmas break was pretty amazing. I mean who wouldnt love sitting around in pj's and shopping. I, like Kyle, Got an ipod also. Its one of those Ipod Touch things. Its pretty cool its just a little confusing at first and it takes a little getting used to and scrapbook stuff because i love doing that. well i am glad you had a good christmas break.

It deffinately sounds like you had many new experiences over your christmas break. Congratulations on figuring out your iPod! I got one for christmas, and i still can only put songs on it. My brother, sister, and i also got a wii for christmas and i have busily been playing the bowling game on it. (i also have to admit that i am ADDICTED to Guitair Hero.) I started reading a new book that isn't my normal type, but i can't put it down for anything. I'm usually a romance novel type person but it turns out that my mom knows me better than i thought! Haha. Well, i am glad that you had a great break and i'm looking foreward to getting to know you this semister.

PS. Would you mind telling me where you got the double choclate caramel brownie recipe from?

My break was good and bad in many ways. It started out bad because I got my snowboard stolen. I made the unfortunate mistake of leaving mine and three other snowboards in the back of my truck while eating in Gatlinburg. Lukily the day after Christmas Jordan and I ran into the people who stole it at Cataloochee. That also took a turn for the worse when on my last run down the mountain I got ran into by another snowboarder and his snowboard went into my arm. I had to get 21 stiches. It was also my birthday which made the break alot better. I happily didn't read a single book.

Well, I'm glad you enjoyed reading over the break.. see you tomorrow!

Sounds like you had a fun and interesting break. I just hung out with my girlfriend over the break. I also seen iam legend and i thought it was very interesting and very sad. Especially when sam died. Luckily i was with my girlfriend so i couldnt cry. But seriously am i the only one without an ipod? Even my little brother got one before me but whatever. I thinks that really cool that your gonna run a half marathon. 13.2 miles? Wow i couldnt even walk that. You should be very proud of yourself. Does anyone have a zune? If so are they as good as an ipod?

I'm glad you had a relaxing break. It's good to not have to wake up early everyday! I did a lot of traveling over the break. First we went to West Virginia and then from there we went to Pittsburgh,PA. I hadn't seen most of my relatives in a long time so it was good to get to see them this year! On the way back from Pittsburgh we ran into a big snow storm. I'm talking about maybe 3 inches of snow covering the road! Only one lane of traffic was open due to ice up in PA. This 7 hour trip became a 10 hour trip where I slept in the car the whole time! I hope we get some snow down here this year!!

Sarah C said...

Can somebody tell me what a zune is? I have never heard of it. Tyler, you have quite a story there! CJ, I am bringing the recipe tomorrow. It is definitely worth your time to make them; boxed brownies can't touch these things!

I had a great break. Santa was good to me and i hope he was to everyone else. Yeah i think ipods could be the greatest invention every to be thought of I mean who doesnt like listening to some good tunes. Josh B your missing out you need to go see National treasure its a really good movie. I went to see it with the family. You gotta love the family bonding time. Tyler D you dont know how pumped i was when I heard you and jave got your stuff back. To bad about the arm tho man.

Well, sounds like everyone has had an interesting break. I, like some of you, went out of town... a LONG drive up to Michigan. It was pretty interesting to see some snow and go sledding.

I guess I'll be different and say no, I don't have an ipod. But I do have a Sansa. I got it for my birthday last year. Oh.. and Sarah M. and zune is an mp3 player also. Its like a newer competition of an ipod. Anyways I had an amazing break.

Perry S. said...

For Christmas break, I stayed here and spent time with my family. We ate a whole lot of food and even my brother got to come in town. It was great to get to see all my family. When I was on the break, I finally spent my savings on a brand new Les Paul electric guitar... its AWESOME. So I spent a lot of time playing that too.

Like a lot of you, I have an ipod that I bought late last year. I really like it and it has a whole lot of room on it for my favorite music and some movies.

Well, over the break, I got to see a lot of family. I don't see a lot of my family frequently because most of them live in Florida and Georgia. Our two weeks felt incredibly long. I absolutely loved it. I got a new Wii for Christmas because I broke my old one.

I hope everyone else had a great break and I missed everyone!

I'm glad everybody had a good break! I had a nice Christmas and Santa was really good to me too. I didn't get an iPod this year since I already had one, but i'm maybe going to upgrade and get an iPod touch with my Christmas money. One thing I did get was a digital camera and it's been alot of fun learning how to use it because I want to learn photography.

For most of my break I basically just stayed home and rested up. I did go see National Treasure 2 and it was really good, but other than that I didn't do anything else too exciting.

See you at school tomorrow!

Wow, sounds like you had an amazing, relaxing break. I, on the other hand, worked... A LOT! But I did find time to finish my latest Nicholas Sparks book (MY FAVORITE AUTHOR!!) It was called "The Choice", and it was incredible. It was so touching, but heartbreaking. I just loved it.
So, you like to cook? So do I. I really like experimenting and trying to create new things. Sometimes it works out really well, and sometimes it just doesn't. Hopefully, next time we have a break, I'll be able to relax as much as you did.

allison_d said...

I'm very happy that you figured out how to use your iPod! I got one for Christmas last year and it took me several monthes to figure out how to use it too. I didn't do a whole lot over the break besides work and play with my brother's Wii. The Wii is SO addicting! My arm is really sore from playing it so much. I just felt that the break went by way too fast. I was just happy to sleep in and not wake up early every single day.

RachelY said...

Well I'm glad everyone had an exciting time. Break was amazing. It's almost my favorite time of year with both Christmas and New Years. But I myself pretty much just did absolutely anything and everything I wanted to. And it was great! Not to mention I went out of town up north and got some much needed sleep from work and got to enjoy actual snow. And if anyone is wondering about Zune, my sweet brother of mine bought me one for christmas and I absolutely love it. They are better than ipods because they don't break as easily.

All I did over the break, was work, and hang out with my 2 best friends. The only thing I read over the break, was the Bible.

My sister actually got me a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble, but I haven't had time to go out and by new books.

The break was way too short, and went by way too fast. But, working all the time at Hobby Lobby made time slow down a bit, considering it is the most boring job ever!!!

JuliaA said...

Sounds like everyone had a pretty interesting break. I didn't do too much of anything. Had a pretty lazy break myself. When I was off work anyway. I saw P.S. I Love You on Christmas day with one of my best friends and finished reading a book I've been trying to get through for over a year now. I don't usually make much time for reading so it takes me a while to get through books. I tried to work out and go running, with my iPod, as much as I could, just to keep from feeling so lazy. Getting back in the swing of things at school has been a royal pain, but I guess I'll get used to it soon enough. See you tomorrow!

wow! first off your defently going to have to give me some of those recespies, they do sound irresistable! Well, for most of my break I worked, and hung out with family. When I did get a chance to relax I of course danced! I really wish I could read like you though, but for some reasom I can't sit still for to long. For the first time since I was itty-bitty my grandparents came down from Texas and spent Christmas with us. I loved that soooo much!I also went with a group of friends to see Juno and I have to say it is the most comical movie I hve seen in a long time! I was laughing and crying all the way through!! I suggest every one go and see it!! Well I hope you get to know your ipod even better, because I know I couldn't live without mine!

Hello Mrs. Mcaffry and all!
So this is kind of cool, cause i have never had a blog or have ever commented on one before. I think this is a great idea for everyone to get to talk with out the stress of school.
On the contrary, I had a great winter break full of fun, sleep, and presents. I was with a lot of family for about three days around Christmas and then we had a family come stay with us over New Years which was so much fun.. I also got some new things for Christmas which is always fun.
You would be proud of me though because i actually went to Mckays bookstore over the break and took some old books then bought some new ones. I made Jeff go with me and for some odd reason he didnt appreciate the place as much as i did.
I am looking forward to the semester and I'm sure there are many comments to come!

LOVE ASHLEY =)

I'm glad you had a relaxing break. I had a lot of fun over Christmas break. I got to hang out with my girlfriend. Technology is a pretty neat thing I got a new cellphone and I was Pretty syked. I don't have an Ipod yet, but I may look for one. That sounds pretty crazy running a half marathon, good luck with that :^)

Being lazy sounds fun but it drove me crazy over my break. I would get up and just drive anywhere to get away from the house. i also got some cookbooks for Christmas. When asked what i wanted for Christmas i responded with "any thing that has to do with cooking". I also recieved a wustof santoku kitchen knife, some other kitchen knifes a sharpener and a jj henkel carying case for them. I will surely have to exchange recipes with you on all recipes. since your starting to become tech savvy you can make your cooking more technological with a great way to keep your recipes organized. i think you'll love all recipe you can even try some of the recipes i've posted. Well i hope you get plenty of use out of those cook books and I hope i get an A on this assignment.

I am glad that everyone had a good vacation. I especially enjoyed mine this year. Generally we would have spent a week cutting the winter short by spending some time in Hilton Head, South Carolina, but this time we stayed home. That, although, took nothing away from the experience. My father took one week of vacation which, inevitably, lead to one week of golf (even on Christmas day). The week after, we cut three trees down in our pasture. In had been a while since I heard that deep creak followed by a loud, thunder-like crash, so it was more than welcome, even with the knowledge of the work it entailed afterwards. It all made for a great time that
I would be more than pleased to repeat.

I got an ipod for christmas last year. Did you know you can get a free song on itunes every week? It sounds like you had a fun break! I got a car for christmas, I actually got it before christmas day though. Over the break I read the book Moonlight by Stephenie Meyer. I saw Sweeny Todd with Emily T, and it is my new favorite movie! I also went and saw I Am Legend. I went to the progressive dinner at church, but thats about it. This doesn't have anything to do with the break but guess what? I might be getting a new horse!

I'm glad that you had a good break. I think we all should have alot more of those, especially lazy ones so were all not grouchy. I would never be able to sit down and read that many books in a two week period. I would die from being too still. Anyways, its cool that your going to run a marithon. I'm 100% sure u can do it. I always wanted to do that, but i never had the time to go and do it.

Erika N. said...

I would have to say that this break was actually kind of boring for me. I basically laid around with friends all day and did absolutely nothing. Nothing really exciting happened until Christmas morning when I got my new lap top which I absolutely love! Ater that morning it was like the break just flew by. Even new years wasnt that great, but I still decided to make some resolutions which I probably will forget about in two weeks just like everyone else.

Andy C. said...

Sounds like you had fun! I basically just hung out with my favorite person in the whole world the whole break. She got me an ipod for Christmas and I am just now learing how to use it tonight actually. I hope I like mine as much as you enjoy users. Maybe one day you should bring the whole class some of those treats you are talking about? That would be lovely.

Thats about all I did over my break.

Oh, i am glad you figured out your ipod. I have had one for about a year now, and i can't live without it!

My break was great. I love having time off to chill with my friends and family. This break was somehow different then others. This one, i was more concerned with spending time with people than getting stuff. So it was pretty great.

My friend that goes to ETSU, so she was in for a long time, so i got to hang out with her. I spent alot of time with the kids from my youth group, and we all got closer. I am glad you had a great break too.

Those treats sound great but... I need to loose weight for wrestling. They're cracking down on being a little over at the end of the month. :(

Over my break I did'nt do anything for the for the first week. I just sat around and played videogames and watched TV. But the second week I had wrestling practice and had to help my mom around the house. So my break didn't last long.

My cousin is going to go to military training Sunday. :( My aunt and uncle are so unhappy about him leaving but, they are proud of his decision to protect the country. I hope he does well because he really loves what he is going to do.

wow!Sounds like everyone had tons of fun.The break for me was not that eventful it was boring. My brother came home from the army and we spent most of the break watching movies and eating. My car ran out of gas at Karns middle and thankfully I had just enough gas to break-down in gas station parking lot. One day i had to take my sister to Wal-Mart and someone else had been driving my car and had parked it wierd. I backed out and over a small bush and ripped the front liscense plat off my car. Other than the car trouble and my brother coming home nothing happend.

Although most of you had a very interesting break alls i did was stay up all night and sleep all day.so you may think you had a lazy break but mine was REALLY LAZY! I didnt travel anywhere like many of you all.I did manage to read and complete two of the Harry Potter books while i was up late though. I spent some of my time playing the keyboard I got for Christmas, even though I dont know how to play. hopefully as the school year progresses I can find a teacher. There were days over the break that I didnt even leave the house or get ready for the day. I as well did some cooking though but just the usual things like cakes and candies. I would like to finish up with saying that I agree with Andy you baking something for us would make school so much more AMAZING!

You had a nice Christmas. My Christmas was good too, I got to spend alot of time with my whole family.I went to Indiana with my family to see my grandmother, grandfather, and alot more people. It was nice over there. Later, we went to my uncle's house, he has his own studio. So, I ended up recording A cd there. Ater that, we ate this huge Christmas dinner. All the food tasted nice, except for the potatoe salad. It made my stomach hurt. We ended up staying over there that night. Staying up watching movies, listening to music, and playing games with your family. It was A nice Christmas Day.

Two days later, we drove to Atlanta to meet my cousin. He's a singer. He performs alot. I go back up to Atlanta in 3 weeks so that I can showcase for him. That's going to be fun. While we were there, I started to watch a couple of his recorded performances on the dvd player. But, my mom was in a hurry. Because my sister had A basketball game the next day. So, I couldn't watch all the videos. We were over there for about 4 hours, before we left.

Finally, when we had gotten home. I looked at the clock on my wall. Then, walked straight into my room and went to sleep. It was the best Christmas I had ever had.

Two days after we came back from Atlanta, I had to work the whole week. That wasn't that bad. These were some of the stuff I did over the break.

Well that sounds like a pretty fun break. I had some lazy days myself. I pretty much did my own thing to. I went to go see National Treasure which is a great movie that I highly recommend, Josh you really missed out. iPods definitely make running alot easier you'll definitely enjoy that. But basically my break was hangin out with my girlfriend and going to practice. My christmas was great to I got some great stuff. I got money to just like Josh. That is basically what I did on my break.

Well two weeks went by way to fast for me! I cant wait for the next big break. Maybe you will lay around then too!

My break was alright i didn't get to go anywhere cause of basketball practice and tournaments. I had one chance to snowboard on my youth groups winter retreat and that was ruined cause of the people at ober decided they were going to blow snow the whole time. The only good thing was all the money i got for gas and what not.

I'm glad that you had a lovely break. Because I know as funny as it sounds all breaks aren't as satisfying as it seems they should be. Who knows...

I had a perfect mix of laziness and activity. We cleaned alot before Christmas because we had family coming over. Christmas wasn't as eventful as usual, I don't know why. While my cousin was over I read about 3/4 of her book in one night-The Sister of the Traveling Pants. It was better than I thought it would be. It wasn't as teeny-bopperish and girly as I was expecting. I didn't get to finish it though because she left and took the book with her the next day.

I turned 17 over the break too. Very exciting. My New Year's Eve was also very good. Best one I've had in awhile. The break seemed kind of slow, but a good slow. I keep forgetting that it was two weeks long.

It sounds like everyone had a great vacation and thats great. I had a pretty good vacation myself, lots of running getting ready for my 5k race in march. If you don't know what a 5k is, it is a 3.1 mile race and this particular race ends on the 50 yard line of Neyland Stadium so I'm excited for that. But other than running a lot on break I managed to make a couple trips to North Carolina, Maggie Valley to be exact, to go skiing at Cataloochee with a couple friends. All I have to say about those trips is wow great times on the ski lift.
And Mrs. M, thats pretty cool that you know how to use the iMovie thing I'm lost when it comes to that thing. I'm good with the iTunes thing though, I got a new iPod for Christmas but it seems like everyone and their dog got a new iPod for Christmas. It seems like everyone but josh has seen National Treasure too. Josh you need to go see that you're missing out.
New Years was fun I was down in Atlanta with friends and family. It's nice to have somewhere kinda close that I have family there and gets me away from Knoxville.
And now it is time to get serious and into highschool soccer and english of course.

For my two weeks off, I feel like I almost did the same as you. I did things that I enjoyed doing instead of aweful, time consuming chores. This christmas break was alot different than last year's, without a doubt. I was actually able to venture out, without having my parents attached to my hip at all times. I was a bit shocked because my parents aren't known to let me do much of anything. I was able to go to my best friend's Christmas party and just hang out with my friends on random days. I'm also excited that we have both been able to manage to figure out how to work an ipod. I'm not exactly up to date with technology either, but after playing with it for a little while, I was able to almost completely figure it out. Needless to say, i was pretty excited. Overall, it was really nice to just feel a little bit of freedom and to be able to relax and do the things that I liked to do for once.

I am glad that you had a wonderful break. I, much like yourself, usually have a lengthy to do list myself. This break, I had a very long to do list. This break i spent most of my time babysitting me little sister. Though she cam be a pain in the neck, I love spending time with her.I recieved an ipod last christmas so for this one i recieved an ihome this christmas. I agree with Kyle Palko that they are hard to figure out. Those brownies you made sound soooo amazing. I would like to suggest an amazing book if you havent read it already. It is called A Child Callled It. If you have read it, what do you think about it? This is the only book that I had time to read over the break and it was phenominal!

Break was and of course always alot of fun for everyone. Even if all you did was sit around and be lazy all day it sure beats sitting at school on hard chairs six hours everyday huh? Break was more of an eye opener for me than anything. As we reached the end of the break i started realize all the things i just have to do in this 2nd semester. The feeling was quite disturbing. Formal dress shoppine, planning, cheerleading, work, and school combined really make sure I never have a time to relax or sit down. Those realization made me extremely grateful for those lazy days over the break.

Harris, You will probably cross the finish line in Neyland Stadium about 2 hours before I do!
Luke, I refused to see I Am Legend when my family suggested it on Christmas day. I suspected it would be pretty bad!

I'm now on book three. I also read For One More Day by Mitch Albom and LOVED it! I can't wait to get started on The Five People You Meet In Heaven. I had plans a couple times to go snowboarding but it kept getting too warm and both times the night before, the ski report let us know that they didn't have all the lifts open to the top because the snow was melted or too slushy.

I didn't see any movies, and I'm with Tyler, no books either!

I too had a lazy break, but anyday that I have off is a lazy day for me. Of course there were exciting things that happened; the main being that my eldest brother is, after six years, getting his book published. Other than that, it was pretty dull.

I’m glad to hear everyone had a fun, relaxing Christmas Break. I had a very easy going break, some new neighbors moved in across the street and my brothers and I spent a lot of time playing basketball in the court. I learned to cook my momma’s meatloaf and oh my goodness it is delicious. Although, those brownies sound very tasty. Good luck running the half marathon! I know I wouldn’t be able to run that far if my life depended on it.
At least I’m not the only one without an Ipod, seems everyone else has one but I’ve still got my fingers crossed. Hope you have as much fun on all your breaks as you did this one!

I had a great 2 week break. The way i entertained myself was by doing what i love..playing my guitar. It helps me relax and lets some of my emotions out. Staying with the technology theme i got a zune mp3 player, and i would challenge anyone who claims that an Ipod is better.I got some minor gifts but my major one was a brand new acoustic guitar. Its a t
akamine acoustic cutaway, and wow its gorgeous. But other thatn putting songs on my Zune and writing some of my own my break was pretty sub-par.

Well in my family, ever since my mom has lived here,we go back to Florida for Christmas.I love it although I did not go this year. This year my dad switched the game up a little and invivted me to go to his house for the break.Obviously i said yes.So I went to Nashville this year and pretty much rebonded completely with him.It was amazing!I mean come on what's better than hanging out with your hero making homemade beef jerkey and wonderful memories.I know touching. In all honesty though I would have to say although we didn't do the most exciting things it was great. If you know me you know I hardly see him, that's why it was a crazy cool break.Oh plus I got to talk to Bryan the entire time which helped alot.

Any break from school is, to me, considered amazing! I to love to run although it has been a while due to the busy schedule! On my lazy days I LOVE old movies consisting of the following actors: Judy Garland; Doris Day; Julie Andrews; John Wayne(I know dorky); Gean Kelly; Frank Senatra; Rock Hudson; Grace Kelly; Katherine Hepburn;and Audrey Hepburn, just to name a few! To top off the wonderful films i order TAKE OUT!I am a Take Out Junkie!!! Lazy days are one of a kind, without one every couple of weeks i would go insane!
