Stimulus Bill

by A. Benson

As many of you know, Obama's $787 billion stimulus bill was recently passed. The democratic party has pushed and said it was bipartisan, yet not one republican voted for it. Do you think a more fair solution to the stimulus would exist in allocating 46% of the funds to the republican party to do with how they wish and give 54% to the democratic party because that is how the votes were divided on election day?

Since not one republican voted for the bill it is in no way bipartisan. The solution mentioned does feel like a good idea to me. The democratic party is being unreasonable. You would think it would be a fair decision, although it was not.

I agree with Emily as it is no way bipartisan seeing as not one republican voted for it. It seems as if it may be fair, but in reality it seems slightly the opposite.

It seems to me that the democratic party is almost trying to take over congress, but that is predominantly what government has become: a power struggle. To distribute the money in such a manner would like Emily and Mackenzie said fix some of the problems, but it would also create more. There is no winning solution in politics.

Like Brooke said, nothing is technically won in politics, just as people will still be unhappy even if the stimulus package were designed with even more time, patience, and knowledge of the American people. Sure, giving 54% to the democrats would have changed certain things, but in the end, there's not really a "right" way to deal with this. As Americans, I believe we will have to ride this crisis storm we have been forced into and hopefully, that will be soon.

Like it has been previously mentioned, there is no winning in politics. What is fair to one party,is not neccerssarily fair to another. However, I believe that the solution presented is logical, seeing how it keeps both political parties in mind.

What I don't understand is why the republicans are so upset about all of this. Obama is promising change for America, not just democrats or republicans, or blacks or whites. All Americans. He's been president for less than TWO MONTHS. He has to start somewhere, and the republicans are upset about where he is starting. Where else would he start, besides bettering life for the common American?

My point is that the republicans being so unhappy is going to end up restricting what advantages they get in the future, the ones that Obama is promising. With only 54% of the money, that's obviously approximately half of what money is available.

It would be self-destruction for America, if Obama could only put half of the money promised to use. It's $787 for a reason. That much is needed, and decreasing that? With no doubt, it is a horrible idea.

From what I read of the first section of the bill, we dont even have the money to do any of this. We're going into more national debt to do this. But since our country makes no sense about anything anyway, sure lets give unequal shares to two different parties in a country based on equality. Lets just let the whole " all men are created equal " thing get flushed down the toilet. Did anyone even think of just dividing it EQUALLY among the people. Let them decide what to do with it. DONT give it to politicians, they're idiots. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and all the founding fathers are either rolling over in their graves or laughing hysterically at the stupidity of our country. I say spread it equally, thats what the constitution says, thats what the declaraton of independence says, and things were pretty good economically back when that was what decided what was right for our country. I think we have forgotten what this country was founded and FOUGHT for. I know I'm off subject, but it needs to be said by somebody. I think we should send all the politicians a copy of a pamplett written by Thomas Paine, and hopefully they'll gain some COMMON SENSE.

I don't believe it is right that the democratic party is trying to take over. However, I do agree that our country needs to start somewhere. Mistakes will be made when it comes to government, society, politics, ect... but hopefully that will leave room for improvement and be a lesson well learned from. Sure, things in a perfect world would balance equally, but we do not live in a perfect world. Therefore, we deal with present decisions being made and make the best of them.
In addition to what I have said:
If what Andrew mentioned about our nation going into more debt over this, I don't see the point in the first place.

The idea of splitting the bill like that is worthless. The democrats got lucky this election and hold the majority in just about everything, so it is pretty much up to them where the money goes and how it gets there. And where Broke said that it seems that the democrats are trying to take over congress, well, hate to break it to you,but they already have. Splitting the money in this way is an immature attempt at making life fair, and we all know that it isn't.

Well this is my blog and now seeing some of the comments, I would like to respond. Rebeka for real? Obama's new spending for the year of 2009 is going to place us another $1.75 trillion in the tank. To better Americans? or raise their taxes in an economic recession where people can not even stay in their houses? That makes a lot of sense! Anyway I should have mentioned that the Republicans must use it on their own stimulus bill with the 46% as their budget. Andrew said that we should distribute the money among the masses; Guess who tried that? Russia? China? Cuba? It is Communism on paper. To have "equality" in every way is to accept the commune way of doing things and I highly doubt that you would support that road. The republicans are unhappy because they voted no, however they were overpowered by the democratic majority. Anyone should be able to see that a $1 trillion stimulus bill will not do anything for this nation as long as it is placing us in debt, mortaging our future, and forcing a free enterprise economy depend on the government(Socialism).

Ok, benson, i hope ur still getting the emails of this even though its over. I dont think what Russia, China, and Cuba was the best for any country. I say no to this plan, period. We need to pay our debts first. And we dont need to be taking gifts from other countries, that could put us in a spot we really dont want to be in. But like I said, the loons are running the asylum. Since we are going to be using the money that fell from the sky, we should distribute it equally, then no one can complain. This is not money we are entitled to. People didnt earn this money. Call me a communist if you want, but i think equality should prevail. Of course since our country is run by old whining sissies, theres little chance of equality in the country.

Deviding it among the parties is equality in the most democratic (like democracy)way possible. To just give money out is to start providing the entire country with a large amount of welfare. I agree it should not be happening but neither should a lot of things. This bill was inevitable because as you said, the loons are running the asylum. I was simply offering an alternative to the ungodly bill. If you did not know $900 million is being giving to Palestinians in Gaza to rebuild. That is basically strengthening Hamas and rewarding them for their actions when we can't afford our own expenses we are handing out money to Arab nations because Barrack feels the need to aid his brethren. I believe we could both agree that none of this should be happening, however there are alternative... and there is always voting republican. :)
