Summer Reading

Sophomore Honors Students:

The two books you must read over the summer are The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck and A Separate Peace by John Knowles. You must choose one of the following as well:
  • Life of Pi by Yann Martel
  • A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah
  • The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
  • A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
  • Lipstick Jihad by Azadeh Moaveni

Make sure you complete an analysis card for each book. Enjoy your reading and look for a post later this summer about our informal gathering.

Hi Mrs. McAffry! I would just like to let you know that your class has helped me so much with my English class at Governors School! We do class discussions and she occasionally has us come up with ideas for questions ourselves. We even have a class blog that we have to post to every week. We have read As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner and now we are reading The Girl In the Tangerine Scarf by Mohja Kahf, which is about a Muslim girl growing up in America. Thanks so the multiculturalism research paper, I already have extensive knowledge about the Islamic culture! Thanks so much!
